From the Stylist:
For this photography essay, our starting point was the word “ambivalence” and the meaning behind it. So what’s the definition of this word and why do we feel so drawn to it? In a very basic way, ambivalence is the coexistence within an individual of positive and negative feelings towards the same action. Like everything in life, it’s normal to have mixed reactions about everything – even marriage!
We wanted a raw, honest exercise on a relationship between two people: true feelings that overcome the flaws; heartfelt words spoken that make you forget everything else; and, the acknowledgement that perfection is tangible only when you realize that your strength is built on the good and the bad. We wanted our images to focus on the couple and the space – the actions and movements between the two and their reactions to the scene.
We chose a simple and discreet environment with unpretentious details so the couple stood out. With this type of focus in life, it allows us to realize that indecision or uncertainty are also part of the path to reach a joyful outcome!
